Electronic Fuel Injection and ThunderMax
EFI Basics
5/7/2012, Rogue and Toph Bocchiaro Photos: Rogue
Over the past two decades, Harley-Davidson’s Electronic fuel injection (EFI) overcame the early troubles of Magneti Marelli EFI with the inroduction of a Delphi manufactured system. In the last 10 years the Delphi system has been consistently upgraded and fine-tuned to where we are today. The newest closed-loop feedback EFI with heated oxygen sensors works extremely well. However, changes in engine components and performance upgrades require expensive dyno testing beyond the garage mechanic’s abilities. ThunderMax addressed this issue with an ECM that can tune itself for optimal performance following engine upgrades.

Baggers and Beer
BA Moto: Salton Sea Slab City Riot
4/23/2012, Words: Gary Koz Mraz & Toph Bocchiaro || Photos: Heath Cofran
Do you ever sit back in your chair and daydream about your earlier days of motorcycling? Touring, camping, road trips with good friends, or the great people and times you had when you just decided to "Go?" Many of us didn't start out riding full on, big rig bikes. The thought of or expense of getting a hotel room out on the road wasn't as natural or even an idea at all. We may have camped or crashed at a friend's--old or new. We had a crew of buddies and riding was our passion, lifestyle, transportation and fun...

Midnight Rider: End Of The Line - EPISODE 5
Night Three
4/22/2012, Story by Koz || Midnight Rider Pics: Ron Sinoy & Tork
Freeways may have the same numeric designation and stretch for thousands of miles but are changelings at night, becoming glowing shapeshifters of reflective signs, Botts dots, and drunk bumps. White and yellow lines of high-tech microcrystalline reflective paint disappear into the vanishing point. Some parts of the freeway light up with the latest technology while others literally disappear in disrepair. Massive freeway signs pop from the gloom-like glowing Tarot cards foretelling a foreboding future. 1,577 miles, 37.9 gallons, 22 hours of riding, 26 cups of coffee and 12 cigarettes later I am in Houston…its only night two!

Midnight Rider: Demons of Darkness II - EPISODE 4
Night Two Continued: Demons of Darkness II
4/16/2012, Story by Koz || Midnight Rider Pics: Ron Sinoy
The endless tunnel of darkness that is Texas is totally mindnumbing. There is no escape; just keep moving forward fast. The winds kick up and ghostly shadows dance across the white stripes. There are long stretches of empty highway and I push 110 mph in a pathetic attempt to get to the next patch of distant light. Its 3:00 a.m. and my lights go out. All my lights go out; the bike is still running but the dash, the running lights, headlamp, taillights and accessory HID (High Intensity Discharge) lights…out, dead, nothing. The demons of darkness now caress the hairs on my neck.

Electronic Engine Control and Throttle-by-Wire
A Case of Diminishing Returns?
4/3/2012, Phil Buonpastore & Toph Bocchiaro
New BMW motorcycles have it, as do Harley-Davidson Touring bikes, so do many models of cars and even jet aircraft. What is it? Throttle-, drive- or fly-by-wire—electronic throttle control (H-D’s official wording) and engine management systems, of course.
To take on the entire concept of how throttle-by-wire (TBW; used here throughout for simplicity) is used in every type of transportation technology is to exceed the scope of what can be covered here, but there is much that can be discussed about the positives and negatives of using such a system in motorcycles. Here, we’ll touch upon some reasons why using electronic throttle control systems in motorcycles should be examined on its own merits as compared to its being used in almost any other mode of transportation.

WHEEL RING DESIGNED BY BANDIT
Bandit made brass belt buckles by hand for 40 years, in his garage. He made all shapes and styles. But then his third wife encouraged him to have a matching ring made when they were married. His fourth wife added a diamond, and after he screwed up the 5th marriage, he lost it.
But Sin Wu, knew how much that ring meant to him, so she approached Frank at Nino 925 about making another wheel ring. They are available in silver for $70.00 or solid gold for $550.00. The diamond is not included, but I'm sure Frank can take care of any special request.

TUNNEL OF FIRE SUNDAY POST FOR APRIL 22, 2012The notorious Sheriff, the Swedish moto- journalist is spending a couple of days at the Bikernet Interplanetary headquarters while roaming the countryside on a new 103 Road Glide. He brings interesting insights into our market, the magazine world, web sites, and the social media galaxy. Read More! EVENT RIDDLED SUNDAY POST FOR APRIL 15, 2012I mentioned events in the news. It's nuts, and wonderful all at the same time. We've got project running in every direction, but if we tried to make it to every event, we'd never complete anything. Thankfully, the Bikernet Team is growing, so the old man can stay in the shop, while the young guns attend the RSD Grand Opening, the Illusion open house today, the Long Beach Grand Prix, Viva Las Vegas, the Michigan Freedom Party, or Bike Week in Daytona. Read More! EASTER SUNDAY POST FOR APRIL 8, 2012Where are the eggs? It's interesting living down at the harbor away from any residential shanergary. When a holiday arrives the only indication is the lack of traffic, trucks and folks. The place is vacant for a day. So no sign of Easter Eggs, or rabbits. Although, the dogs have been killing baby possums every night. I can't figure it out. Where do they come from, and why can't they escape?
Let's hit the news. I need to finish up my son's seat pan and ship it back to Le Pera for classic upholstery. A gang of sparrows just flew into the shop. Are they looking for colored eggs?

Spring Is Sprung Sunday Post for April 1, 2012As you know attitude is everything. You can be poor with a damn good outlook on life, and you can be a rich SOB, and be as miserable as a death row inmate. So today I'm poor with positive mind-set. Don't miss the Sunday Post in Bandit's Cantina Read More! Wet Sunday Post for March 25, 2012This may just be the toughest year I've encountered since I left ER. We've taken on a bunch of additional projects and stepped seriously beyond our comfort zone. Once more, I'm going to attempt to be candid with only our Cantina members about my feelings, good and bad, as we face whatever we encounter this year. Our mantra is simple: We will do everything with honor, honesty, and never give up. In addition, while we grapple with projects, we will do all in our power to help others in the industry, from readers, to the rights community, to our Bikernet advertisers, and our Bonneville Sponsors. Read More! Daytona Party Weekend Sunday Post, March 11, 2012Yesterday was nuts. We scored a Leonardo da Vinci bicycle that was built after a supposed fake da Vinci sketch. Then we stopped at Pacific Coast Cycles in Long Beach and asked to borrow a set of 45 cases to help with the Bonne Belle mock-up. Mike, who is destined for open-heart surgery in a couple of days, just happened to have a complete motor on a stand. He offered it, and we loaded it into a milk crate and headed home. Never a dull moment.
Let's hit the news. Jeremiah is headed in our direction to help with mounting Bare Knuckle, heavy-duty fenders on the Bonne Belle, this afternoon.
